4월 14일 니콘이미징코리아는 스위블 디스플레이를 얹은 보급형 DSLR 카메라 D5000을 발표했다. 이번에 발표한 D5000은 스위블 디스플레이와 동영상 촬영 기능, 다양한 촬영 보조 기능을 갖춰 초보 이용자와 여성 이용자를 타겟으로 한 제품이다.

D5000의 23만 화소 2.7형 TFT 멀티 앵글 디스플레이는 다른 브랜드 제품과 달리 아래쪽로 내려쓰는 것이 특징이다. 회전은 270도까지 가능하다. 니콘의 독특한 하향 회전식 스위블 디스플레이는 장점과 단점이 있는데 우선 장점은 기존 니콘의 효율적인 버튼 배치를 그대로 적용할 수 있다는 것이다. 단점은 디스플레이를 아래로 내린 상태에서 경미한 낙하 충격을 받을 경우에도 디스플레이가 필히 파손될 것이라는 것이다.

작년 가을 발표한 D90의 동영상 촬영 기능인 디무비도 탑재했다. D5000은 D90과 동일한 1,280 x 720 해상도 24프레임 동영상 촬영이 가능하며, 최대 5분(1,280 x 720 기준) 동안 촬영할 수 있다. PC에서 작업해야 하는 후보정 기능을 카메라 내에서 제공하는 것도 특징이다. D5000은 수정 메뉴를 통해 기울임 보정, 왜곡 보정, 어안 효과, 윤곽 살리기, 원근 효과, 스톱모션 무비, D-Lighting, 적목보정, 트리밍, 모노크롬, 필터효과, 색 밸런스, 스몰 픽처, 화상 합성 등의 기능을 제공한다.

 이미지 센서는 유효화소수 1,230만 화소 니콘 DX 포맷 CMOS 센서를 채용했다. 감도는 ISO 200부터 3200까지 지원하며 확장시 ISO 100과 ISO 6400까지 증감할 수 있다. 센서 제원을 보면 기존 D90과 완전히 동일한 센서가 채용되었음을 알 수 있다. 문제는 D3, D300, D90에서 지적되는 낮은 채도 다. D5000을 이용해 이상적인 환경에서 촬영할 수 있는 여건이 마련되지 않아서 테스트해보지 못했지만 기존 CMOS 센서를 쓴 니콘 카메라의 특성을 그대로 이어받았으리라 추측된다.

사진의 렌즈 장착부 우측 하단의 공기구멍은 기류제어홀로 공기의 흐름을 제어해 로우 패스 필터에 먼지가 붙지 않도록 한다. 또한 카메라의 전원을 켜고 끌 때 로우 패스 필터를 4 종류의 공진 주파수로 진동시켜 먼디를 털어내는 이미지 센서 클리닝 기능도 갖추고 있다. 이런 에어 플로우 컨트롤 시스템과 이미지 센서 클리닝 기능의 복합적인 먼지 감소 기능을 이용해 안심하고 촬영할 수 있다.

뷰 파인더는 시야율 95%, 배율 0.78배의 시인성을 가지고 있다. AF 센서는 기존 D90에 채용되었던 11점 AF 포인트를 갖는 멀티 CAM1000 AF 센서 모듈을 채용했다. 중앙 포커스 포인트는 크로스 타입 센서로 피사체를 정확하게 포착한다. AF 센서 모듈은 장면 인식 시스템과 연동하여 화면 안의 배경, 인물, 전경 등 구도를 판단하여 자동으로 최적화한 포커스 포인트로 초점을 맞춘다.

 AF 모드는 11개 측거점 가운데 1 포인트를 선택하는 싱글 포인트, 불규칙하게 움직이는 피사체를 촬영할 때 적합한 다 이내믹 영역, 11개 측거점의 초점 정보를 카메라가 자동으로 판단하는 자동 영역, 1포인트를 선택해서 피사체에 초점을 맞추면 반셔터 상태에서 카메라가 피사체를 연속 추적하는 3D-트래킹 등 모두 4가지 모드를 제공한다.

니콘 D5000은 멀티 앵글 디스플레이를 채용해 라이브 뷰 기능을 제공한다. 23만 화소 LCD가 다소 아쉽지만, 앵글의 자유로움은 기존 니콘 DLSR 카메라에서 누릴 수 없었던 부분이다. 사실 D90과 모든 면에서 앞서는 부분이 없고, 내장 AF 모터마저 빠진 상황에서 D5000의 가치를 증거할 수 있는 부분은 멀티 앵글 디스플레이 뿐이다.

  라이브 뷰 촬영시에는 위상차 AF는 이용할 수 없으며, 콘트라스트 AF만을 제공한다. AF 모드는 모두 4가지로 피사체 추적, 얼굴 인식, 표준 영역, 와이드 영역 등을 지원한다.

정보 화면은 클래식 디자인과 그래픽 디자인 2종류를 선택할 수 있다. 그래픽 디자인에서는 셔터 스피드와 조리개 값을 한 눈에 파악할 수 있다. 촬영 모드 다이얼을 조작할 때는 화면에 장면 모드가 그래픽으로 표시되어 카메라 상단의 다이얼을 보지 않은채 조작이 가능하다. 또한 각 디자인마다 세 종류의 색상을 선택할 수 있다.

배터리는 새로운 EN-EL9a를 쓴다. EN-EL9a 배터리는 1080mAh 용량을 지녀 CIPA 기준에 준거 최대 510 프레임을 촬영할 수 있다.

솔직한 느낌을 말하면 니콘 D5000은 위치가 애매한 보급기다. 니콘 DSLR 카메라 가운데 최초로 스위블 액정 디스플레이를 채용해 라이브 뷰 기능을 보다 효율적으로 쓸 수 있고, 상위 기종인 니콘 D90의 제원을 대부분 이어받아 강력한 성능을 자랑한다. 하지만 AF 모터가 내장되지 않은 D40, D40X, D60의 뒤를 잇는 제품으로 AF 렌즈 이용에 다소 불편함이 있다. 시쳇말로 '고자바디'라고 불리는 이들 모델은 초보 이용자들에게 보다 비싼 AF-S 렌즈군의 구입을 강요하게 된다. 물론 D40, D60 등은 뛰어난 값대 성능을 바탕으로 수 년이 지나도록 꾸준한 인기를 누리는 스테디셀러다. 그렇다면 D5000의 가격은 어느정도일까? 니콘은 출시 전까지는 미정이라는 입장을 고수하고 있지만 관계자들의 의견으로 미국 출시 가격 $830, 일본 출시 가격 8만 5천 만엔을 국내 환율에 반영했을 때 최소한 100만원대 전후에 출시될 것으로 예상하고 있다.

판단은 결국 소비자의 몫이다. D5000이 '고자가 된 덕구(D90)'라는 평가를 받을 것인지, 상위 모델을 능가하는 하극상 모델로 평가 받을 것인지는 출시 뒤에 정확히 알 수 있을 것이다.
